How booking works
The whole process runs over email or WhatsApp. Nothing is paid until you have a quote you're happy with and a surgery date on the calendar.

Your latest prescription (a photo of the glasses or contacts box is fine), your age, and the month you can travel. If you already have a corneal thickness reading or a previous surgeon's notes, include them; if not, that's what the pre-op exam is for.

Lock the date, then book flights
You confirm directly with the clinic and pay them, not us. Once the surgery date is held, book flights and a place to stay. We'll point you to neighbourhoods near the clinic and tell you what to pack.
Fly, get examined, get treated
The pre-op exam on day one is the real candidacy decision. If your corneas say no to LASIK, the surgeon will talk you through PRK, SMILE or ICL, or tell you to keep your glasses. Nobody gets pushed onto the table.
What it costs, and how long it takes
Published 2025–2026 ranges for both eyes, all-in clinic pricing. Your actual quote depends on the procedure your corneas qualify for and the platform the clinic runs. Colombian quotes are normally itemised, so you can see the exam, procedure, medications and follow-ups line by line.

Why Colombia for this
Colombia is where refractive surgery started: José Barraquer's Bogotá clinic pioneered the field in the 1950s and 60s. The modern clinics run the same Alcon, Zeiss and Schwind platforms used in the US, and the country is a 3–6 hour flight from most of North America, which makes the one-week follow-up window practical rather than theoretical.

Questions people ask before they book
Can the exam and the surgery happen on the same trip?
Yes, and that's the normal pattern for international patients. Exam on day one, surgery on day two or three if you qualify. Some surgeons want a longer gap after a dilated exam or if you've been in contact lenses recently, so plan to stop wearing soft contacts about a week before you land and rigid lenses for longer. Your quote will say.
How long before I can fly home?
Most Colombian surgeons want to see you at 24 hours and again at about a week before clearing you to fly. Flying itself isn't dangerous to the flap; the issue is being far away if something needs attention in the first days. Budget eight days on the ground.
Do I pay you?
No. You pay the clinic directly, usually a deposit to hold the date and the balance at the clinic. We're a booking desk: we match you to a clinic, get the quote, and handle the back-and-forth. If a clinic pays us a referral fee, it doesn't change the price you're quoted.
What if I'm not a candidate when I get there?
You pay for the exam (typically a small fee, often credited if you proceed) and the surgeon talks you through alternatives. That's also why we ask for your prescription and any corneal readings up front: if it's obvious you're outside LASIK range, we'll say so before you buy a ticket.
Is a Colombian surgeon as good as one at home?
Look at the same things you would anywhere: board certification, fellowship training in cornea or refractive surgery, case volume, and which laser platform they use. Every quote we send names the surgeon so you can check. The Colombian Society of Ophthalmology registry is public.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
The clinics we work with handle international patients in English, and the pre-op and post-op instructions come in English. Outside the clinic, El Poblado in Medellín and the north of Bogotá are easy for English speakers.
